We will be back to curling effective the morning of January 31st, 2022
The current restrictions state that we are only allowed 50% of building capacity. These will remain in effect until at least Feb. 21, 2022, pending any future updates.
Effective Jan. 4, 2022, everyone 12 years of age and older must show their enhanced vaccination certificate with a QR code from the Province. We will have to do this again for everyone when we return to curling, as per the EOHU. Here is the link to download these documents to your phone or to print off: https://covid-19.ontario.ca/covid-19-vaccines-ontario. You can also call the Provincial Vaccine Contact Centre at 1-833-943-3900 to have your certificate mailed to you.
Also, we will still be required to use the CurlON QR code tablet for contact tracing/paper sign-in until further directed by the EOHU.
Remember, if you have any symptoms, have a positive Rapid Antigen Test, or have failed the Provincial COVID-19 self-assessment screening tool https://covid-19.ontario.ca/self-assessment/, please DO NOT come into the curling centre. and be sure to follow all Provincial guidelines.
The only event that is cancelled so far for the remainder of the curling season is the ladies invitational. We have a lot of good news and plenty of curling still to happen:
- The new compressor is currently being installed as I write this e-mail and all will be ready for Monday Jan. 31.
- All practice times will be started again as of Jan. 31st (Tuesday & Thursday 8:30 – 9:30 pm, Wednesday 11:30 am - 1:00 pm and Saturday 11:30 am – 1:00pm).
- The new winter session for learn-to-curl will be starting Monday Jan. 31st, 2022 @ 8:15 pm.
- Club bonspiels will consist of the Winterspiel (March 4-6) and the Closing (April 25 -29) concluding with our club annual awards April 29th.
- The St. Patrick’s funspiel March 19th.
- We are also hosting the CurlON U15 event March 26 & 27
- And of course, cheering on your favourite curling team in the Scotties (Starting this Friday), the Brier, and Team Canada in the Olympics.
Effective immediately, Debbie Tropea has been appointed by the board to become the Treasurer of the Cornwall Curling Club. We wish to thank Kelly Benton for her service in this role during these hectic times. Kelly will remain on the finance team and help Debbie in the transition.
As always, we will be in constant communication with the EOHU and the City of Cornwall to update our policies and procedures before we start curling again, so please stay tuned for any changes that may occur when we start up again.
The board's goal will be to keep the club open, provided we can do it in a safe and healthy manner. The board will continue to provide regular updates from the information that we receive from CurlON, EOHU and the Province.
Stay safe and Welcome Back!!!!
The curling centre will be closed for 21 days, until at least January 26th, due to the new Provincial restrictions.
Members should stay tuned via our website and e-mails from the curling centre for updates. We are hopeful that we will be back curling and hit the ground running as soon as the restrictions are lifted!
In the meantime, your board will be meeting over the next 3 weeks to figure out the remainder of the curling season. We will be looking at extending our season until the end of April and making up competitive league-play games on open nights and weekends.
The organizing committee for the ladies invitational (scheduled for February 11,12 & 13, 2022) has decided that the event will be cancelled for this year.
